“…My reading and writing journey started when I was very young. I remember around two years old being fascinated by letters and stapling together my own books. I grew up in rural Canada, in Northern Ontario, and my dad posted the letters of the alphabet in our basement. Books were always a part of our family’s life. I learned how to read at four years old when Nana, my grandmother, taught me how to read from a book called Fun with Dick and Jane.
“I wrote my first ‘official’ book when I was fourteen, and in 2009 my road into publishing started. I soon received my first traditional book deal at sixteen years old for the first version of my philosophical tale, The Stones. I worked with an editor from the publishing house for about four years. We worked over the telephone and never met in person until the book launch, whereupon he and his entire team assumed I was in my forties! Imagine the surprise they got when an eighteen-year-old showed up for the book signing!

“I began writing on my search for self-healing.
“As a child and young adult I suffered from what some doctors call ‘epilepsy’ and ‘anxiety’ in the 1990s—yet about seven years after weaning off medication using meditation and yoga in the early 2000s (under doctor supervision), from an EEG scan we discovered it was, in fact, high-frequency brain waves that are still in the process of being studied at this time (Gamma brain waves). ‘General Anxiety Disorder’ was only a mind-affliction and there was no longer a diagnosis of ‘epilepsy.’ Following my own inner guidance, with a lifestyle turnaround and a rigorous daily meditation practice (and lots of help along the way) I live and breathe today medication-free without many of the suffocating constraints and problems the mind created.

The Awakened Press (formerly Lindsay R. Allison: Writing, Editing, Publishing) guides new and aspiring authors to write, edit, and publish their books at various stages of the book creation process. Today we have worked with over 90 writers and authors and helped publish 46 diverse books, of which over a dozen have become best sellers and in the Top 100 on various lists, with more titles on the way.
What Is a Hybrid Book Publishing Company?
There are many different hybrid book publishers; we cannot speak for other hybrid publishing models, we can only speak for ourselves. We discuss our publishing practices and hybrid business model when we first connect with potential new authors. We are not a self-publisher or “vanity press,” where the author pays to have their book published and signs a restrictive contract which involves surrendering significant rights. Instead, we offer a collaborative process with our authors during the creative writing and book production stages, share costs and risks with the author, and actively market and sell each book. We also maintain collaborative marketing and PR strategies post-publication, meaning our authors still get ongoing support after their book is published.
We offer 100% royalties to new authors. All authors maintain 100% copyrights to their written works.

Write
It all starts by getting your manuscript written. Write the first draft of your manuscript yourself and reach out later when it is finished and ready for editing. Or, participate in our 1x1 programs or classes to accelerate and finish your writing.

Edit
Next, your completed rough draft needs editing. Our experienced book developers and copyeditors will take care of you on a 1x1 collaborative creative process to complete the editing of your manuscript. We never over edit, keeping your unique voice and message wholly intact.

Publish
The last step? We publish your fully edited manuscript into a book. This is when your book is complete and gets designed and distributed on Earth in paperback and/or hardcover, e-book, and perhaps audiobook format. We offer integrated PR and marketing services automatically to support all the books we publish.
